Restrictions on Mobile Phone Usage in school

On Thursday, an official statement from the Delhi Government issued a guideline forbidding the use of mobile phones within school premises.

The advisory from the Delhi government concerning limitations on mobile phone usage in school premises emphasizes that parents are urged to make certain that their children do not bring mobile phones onto the school grounds. Additionally, the advisory strongly emphasizes that mobile phones must not be permitted within the classroom setting.

As per the guidance provided by the Directorate of Education, parents were asked to ensure that their children did not bring mobile phones onto the school premises and if found with mobile phones, the school authorities would need to make suitable arrangements, such as lockers or other systems, for their secure storage.

The Directorate of Education stated in the advisory, "The parents are requested to ensure that their wards do not carry mobile phones in the school premises. In case, students bring mobile phones to the school, then the school authorities shall make adequate and appropriate arrangements for safe custody using lockers/others system etc."

The advisory further instructed teachers and staff members to refrain from utilizing mobile devices in areas such as classrooms, playgrounds, laboratories, and libraries, which are dedicated to teaching and learning activities. The statement advised that the school authorities could offer dedicated helpline numbers to parents and students, allowing students to make and receive calls.

It further stated that as a result, the Heads of Schools (HoS) in Government Schools, as well as all HoS/Managers of Private Unaided/Aided Recognized Schools under the Directorate of Education, were recommended to share the above information with students, parents, and all teaching/non-teaching staff in their schools. They were also instructed to implement required measures based on this guidance.
