A man and his teenage nephew were shot dead on Diwali night in Delhi, allegedly over a property dispute. Police are investigating all potential motives, while CCTV footage of the incident circulates online.
A 40-year-old man, Akash Sharma, and his 16-year-old nephew, Rishabh, were fatally shot on Diwali night in northeast Delhi’s Bihari Colony. CCTV footage captured a disturbing sequence in which a man touched Sharma’s feet before his associate chased and shot at him as he was walking home. Rishabh, seen in the video running after the attackers, was also shot when he tried to intervene. The double homicide has been attributed to possible personal enmity and property disputes, according to police.
Deputy Police Commissioner Prashant Gautam confirmed that officers responded to the scene at 8:30 pm on Thursday after a report of gunfire. At least five shots were fired, with Sharma’s 10-year-old son also sustaining a bullet injury to his hand. The child is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
A brief, 1.35-minute clip of the event went viral on social media, but its authenticity remains unverified. The footage shows Sharma and Rishabh placing firecrackers outside their home when two men, one on a scooter, confronted them. One suspect, believed to be a minor, has been apprehended, and police are examining the case from multiple angles.
