Intermittent rains in Delhi NCR have left major parts of the region waterlogged, exposing inadequate infrastructure and causing rush-hour delays. Frustrated commuters have taken to social media to express their concerns, with some joking about needing boats to get to work. Despite moderate rainfall today, traffic in Delhi and Gurugram once again ground to a halt, highlighting the urgent need for better drainage systems.

Three days of intermittent rainfall have left vast parts of Delhi NCR waterlogged, transforming the daily commute into a frustrating experience for office-goers and parents dropping off their children. The downpour has once again exposed the crumbling infrastructure of the region, particularly in Delhi and Gurugram, where drainage systems failed to cope, leading to severe waterlogging on major routes and causing significant rush-hour delays.

Waterlogged streets, particularly in Gurugram’s sector-37C, have become a familiar sight, sparking outrage on social media. Commuters stranded on these flooded roads expressed their frustrations and called on civic authorities to take immediate action to address these recurring issues.

Videos and photos of submerged vehicles and roads flooded with ankle-deep water have flooded social media. One user, Shruti Mallick, sarcastically noted, “Gurgaon after just an hour of rain… With this kind of crumbling infra, we are planning to compete with mega cities like Dubai.”

Others responded with humour, suggesting they might need boats to get to work. Neetu Garg asked on social media, "Should I write driving or boating for office?" while another, Satish Dangi, joked, "Swimming should be mandatory for corporate jobs in Gurgaon." Despite the amusement, the situation reflects a deeper concern about the region’s infrastructure and its readiness to handle heavy rainfall.

Even after only moderate rainfall today, traffic came to a standstill once again, highlighting the urgent need for better drainage systems and flood management in Delhi NCR. Until then, it seems commuters will have to endure their daily “water expeditions” just to reach their offices.
