Severe monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in northern India, leading to flash floods, landslides, and widespread devastation. Rivers like the Yamuna in Delhi have swelled, resulting in the inundation of roads and residential areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally assessed the situation and directed officials to take necessary actions.

The state most affected by the heavy rainfall is Himachal Pradesh, where at least 16 people have lost their lives. Floods and landslides have caused significant damage to highways and residential areas. Mandi, a town in the state, witnessed flash floods triggered by a cloud burst in Thunag, leaving roads filled with debris and water.

Uttarakhand has also faced the brunt of the monsoon, with rivers, including the Ganga, overflowing and causing disruptions. Landslides have blocked major highways, leaving many stranded, including pilgrims on the Kanwar Yatra. Travel advisories have been issued to discourage people from venturing into hilly regions.

Uttar Pradesh reported 34 deaths due to rain-related incidents, such as lightning strikes, drowning, and heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and instructed officials to provide immediate relief and medical assistance to the affected.

Political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress party, have expressed their sorrow over the loss of lives and urged their party workers to assist in relief efforts. They have also requested additional funds from the central government to aid the affected states.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with the involvement of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), focusing on ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by this natural disaster.
