Kerala Police Detains Four Karnataka Cops for Allegedly Demanding Extortion Money

Four Karnataka police officers, including an inspector, were detained by their Kerala counterparts on charges of alleged extortion. The Karnataka team had traveled to Kochi on August 1 to apprehend two suspects in an online cryptocurrency cheating case. After successfully arresting the accused, they are accused of demanding hefty sums, Rs 25 lakh each, for their release.
The incident came to light when one of the accused, with the help of his fiancee, lodged a complaint with the local police in Kerala. The police swiftly took action, detaining the four Karnataka officers and recovering Rs 3.95 lakh in cash from their vehicle.
According to the Kerala Police, the Karnataka team managed to locate and detain the suspects, identified as Akhil and Nikhil. Subsequently, they allegedly demanded money from both men for their release. One of the suspects paid Rs 1 lakh, while the other paid Rs 2.95 lakh.
The fiancee of one of the accused became instrumental in exposing the alleged extortion and promptly reported the matter to the Kerala Police. The law enforcement authorities took swift action, leading to the detention of the four Karnataka cops involved in the case.
Currently, further investigation is underway, and a senior officer from the Karnataka Police has arrived in Kochi to delve into the matter and ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
