In
the ongoing IND
vs ENG 1st Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, England
encounters further challenges as their prominent spinner, Jack Leach, grapples
with a "pretty serious" knee injury. The team, already trailing with
a deficit of 175 runs against India, faces uncertainties about Leach's role in
the remaining innings.
Leach's injury, initially incurred on the first day, worsened during the morning session on day two. Spin-bowling coach Jeetan Patel disclosed that the left-arm spinner suffered the blow while attempting to save a boundary. Expressing
concern, Patel hinted at the severity of the injury, speculating Leach's return
for the fourth innings. The spinner, known for his resilience, had recovered
from a stress fracture last summer, making the setback disheartening for the
team. Patel emphasized the need to be cautious, indicating that Leach's
determination might lead to his return in the subsequent innings.
Acknowledging
Leach's toughness, Patel stated that the team would prioritize his recovery
over rushing him back into play. With four Tests ahead, the team aims to ensure
Leach's sustained contribution. As the Test match unfolds, England faces not
only the challenge of narrowing the gap against India but also the crucial
absence of one of their key players, Jack Leach.
