A Rolls Royce Phantom luxury limousine crashed with an oil tanker on the New Delhi–Mumbai Motorway, resulting in the tragic deaths of two people in the tanker.
The tragic event, which took place in the Nuh region of Haryana, sent shockwaves throughout the country.
All injured passengers are being treated in a Gurgaon hospital at the moment.
Rampreet, the oil tanker's driver, and Kuldeep, his assistant, tragically perished in the ensuing fire after the two trucks collided.
Images from the incident show the once elegant Phantom reduced to a burned shell, with its lavish inside transformed into a vibrant orange flame.
The oil tanker's remains, a mangled heap of metal, are a sombre reminder of the catastrophe that befell them.
According to eyewitnesses, the five people inside the blazing Rolls Royce were quickly rescued by worried relatives or fellow travellers in surrounding vehicles.
The oil tanker had halted short to make a U-turn when the speeding Phantom slammed with it at an amazing 230 kilometres per hour, as seen by eyewitnesses who tried to put together the events leading up to the disaster. The oil tanker took the lion's share of the damage in the tragic accident.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar of the Nuh Police Department admitted that witness reports suggest the Rolls Royce was speeding, but he emphasised that a thorough investigation is still ongoing. He reaffirmed the efforts being made to determine the precise sequence of events and stated that both trucks were travelling from Delhi when the incident occurred.
This tragedy vividly illustrates the dangers of driving too fast for highway conditions and highlights the critical need for increased safety measures and tougher enforcement to prevent further tragedies like this one.
