In a heartbreaking turn of events during a football match, an Indonesian footballer lost his life on the field after being struck by lightning. The incident unfolded during a game between FLO FC Bandung and FBI Subang at Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, West Java. Caught on camera, the exact moment of the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the football community. The victim, identified as Septain Raharja, a 35-year-old player from Subang, fell to the ground upon impact as fellow players rushed to his aid.

Despite initial signs of life, Raharja was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. This unfortunate event recalls a similar incident during the Soeratin U-13 Cup in 2023, where a young player lost his life in Bojonegoro, East Java, also due to a lightning strike.

Regrettably, this is not an isolated occurrence in football. In 2023, a 21-year-old Brazilian footballer met a similar fate in Brazil. These incidents underscore the need for heightened awareness and precautions regarding player safety in adverse weather conditions.

According to refereeing guidelines, match officials bear the responsibility of interpreting weather conditions and ensuring player safety. Notably, in the Netherlands, all matches scheduled for February 8, 2020, were suspended due to high winds, following discussions involving clubs, law enforcement, and local authorities.
