Fire breaks out at Acropolis Mall in Kolkata city, India; no one was harmed

A major fire erupted at Acropolis Mall in Kolkata, prompting evacuation. Firefighters are battling the blaze, with no reported injuries. The cause is unknown, and authorities will investigate adherence to safety regulations.

A major fire incident took place in the Acropolis Mall in Kasba locality of south Kolkata on Friday afternoon. The blaze, which reportedly started on the third floor of the shopping complex around 12. The fire alarm at 3:15 pm led to the evacuation of the entire building.

As per the first-hand information, the firefighters rushed 10 tenders to the scene of the fire. Fire fighters in oxygen masks combating the fire, went inside the building through the thick smoke with the aim of putting off the fire and ensure all occupants were safe. Until the present time, there is no record of any injuries that have been inflicted by this existing threat.

The fire was first observed on the third floor of Acropolis Mall, the Fire and Emergency Services Department operationalized the firefighting process, and we are attempting to controlling the fire as of now, an official mentioned.

The reasons of the fire are still unknown, but some of the sources indicate that the fire may have started in the food court of the Mall. The incident has disrupted the movement of traffic in front of the mall as the Kolkata Traffic Police ordered the restriction of traffic movement due to the thick smoke in the vicinity.

This incident occurred few days after another fire that erupted at a restaurant located at Park Street in central Kolkata on Tuesday. In that case, the fire fighters used nine tenders to put out the fire, which elicited fear among people living in the area and working in offices. Fortunately, there were no human fatalities during the Park Street fire incident.

On his part, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose said that the reason behind the Acropolis Mall fire would be ascertain after a forensic investigation. The authorities will also determine if the mall management complied with all required safety measures.
