Post the recent ODI World Cup, teams have dived headfirst into preparing for the forthcoming T20 extravaganza. Anticipation is high as 20 teams gear up for this mega event, with 18 teams already confirmed and the remaining slots to be filled from the African region.

The fight for the two available slots from Africa involves seven competitive teams: Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Kenya's unexpected rise in the qualifiers has been spearheaded by Obuya's outstanding contribution. His 137 runs in three matches, accompanied by a 124.55 strike rate, has been a crucial factor in Kenya's victories. Notably, Kenya's triumphs against Rwanda, Nigeria, and Tanzania have solidified their position in the qualifiers.

Obuya's cricket journey spans over two decades, starting in 2001, and includes notable appearances in the 2003 World Cup where Kenya reached the semifinals. Coincidentally, he once played alongside Asif Karim and now shares the field with Karim's son, Irfan Karim, the team's wicketkeeper.

As the T20 WC 2024 qualifiers continue, Kenya's unexpected prowess and Obuya's stellar leadership promise an exhilarating run-up to the prestigious tournament.
