Indian Railways recently launched 'Gajraj AI,' a pioneering technology designed to avert train-related elephant accidents. The innovative software harnesses artificial intelligence (AI) to mitigate the recurring issue of elephant fatalities on railway tracks.

Named 'Gajraj,' this cutting-edge AI system operates as an armor to safeguard elephants from train accidents. It specifically targets incidents involving elephants by using sensors installed along the Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) line covering 700 kilometers across various states like Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, and more.

Functioning through sensors capable of detecting vibrations from elephants' footsteps up to 200 meters away, 'Gajraj AI' swiftly alerts train conductors upon detection. This advanced warning system allows immediate action, enabling the train's Loco Pilot to slow down and ensure the safety of both elephants and passengers.

Tragically, about 20 elephants lose their lives yearly due to train accidents on railway tracks in India. To address this critical issue, the 'Gajraj AI' system is pivotal, aiming to proactively prevent such unfortunate incidents involving elephants on railroads.

The introduction of this AI-driven technology marks a significant stride by Indian Railways to prioritize wildlife conservation and enhance railway safety. The system's deployment along vulnerable tracks demonstrates a commitment to protecting elephants while ensuring the safety of rail travelers.
