Giant Thiruvalluvar Statue: A Marvel Rises at Kurichi Lakebed in Tamil Nadu

A 115-foot-tall statue of Thiruvalluvar, a 1st-century BCE Tamil poet-philosopher, is set to be unveiled soon at the Kurichi lakebed in Tamil Nadu, India. KCP

Infrastructure Limited is building the statue, and will be the tallest statue of Thiruvalluvar in the world. It is made of bronze and weighs 500 tonnes. The statue is being constructed at a cost of ₹100 crore (US$13 million) and is expected to be unveiled in the first week of July 2023.


The statue is being built as part of the Kurichi lakebed development project, which the Government of Tamil Nadu is undertaking. The project aims to develop the lakebed into a tourist destination and provide local people a livelihood.
