On Thursday, Bollywood star Govinda joined the Shiv Sena, a political organization associated with Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde. This move added some sparkle to the impending Maharashtra LokSabha elections.

Govinda joins politics, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena

Govinda is expected to run in the Mumbai North West constituency when he returns to politics following a break. Govinda earned the moniker "giant-slayer" in 2004 while contesting for the Mumbai North LokSabha seat after defeating BJP contender Ram Naik. In the end, he decided to step down from his party position and abandon politics entirely.

The lawmaker said, "It is a blessing from God that I am joining Shiv Sena." Before being formally welcomed into the party by Eknath Shinde, Govinda said, "I thought I would never enter politics again." It was Shinde who made the announcement. Govinda said that Mumbai seemed to have improved and become cleaner under Eknath Shinde's leadership. The actor claimed that Govinda's parents were friendly with Bala saheb Thackeray, the founder of the religious outfit.

Following his encounter with Eknath Shinde last week, there have been conjectures that Govinda might be considering a comeback to politics. Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hedge paid a visit to the actor's Juhu home early on Thursday. The meeting time was nearly the same.

Govinda sidestepped inquiries about whether he would run in the LokSabha election, while Eknath Shinde stated that the actor's decision to join the party is unconditional.
