A campaign rally held by the former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump at Butler, Pennsylvania was interrupted by gunfire last Saturday evening and this led to stampede among the people who were attending the rally and this has raised so much concern over political violence in the United States of America.

The event took place when Trump was still delivering his speech, it was at the Butler Farm show grounds and the particular time was roughly six minutes to the end of his speech. Hearing multiple gunshots, agents from the Secret Service immediately shielded the former president. Trump himself did not suffer any injury in the attack.

Again, ‘The shooter was carrying an AR-15 rifle and was spotted on the roof of a small shed which is 150 meters away from the stage of the concert venue’. It took at least six shots before the secret service snipers was able to deal with the threat. Some of the occupants were injured, with two of them being taken to hospitals near the scene.

That attack caused people in the crowd to express their emotions and feelings, and most of them mentioned that they were afraid, angry, and astonished. Some of them said they are worried about the growing polarization of the society in America, while others said the act was a clear attempt to bring harm to them and their political affiliations.

It was followed by a wave of heated debate as some of the demonstrators expressed their desire to wreak vengeance, with one person shouting, “civil war,” others insisting that the act was politically motivated. Within a week, a billboard was installed that pointed to the Democrats as the perpetrators of an assassination attempt on Trump.

The shooting has led to the discussions of gun laws and political opinions in the United States again. It also leads to questions to the security measures in campaign events as the country prepares for a heated year of campaigns.

While probes are ongoing, politicians are under tremendous pressure to explain the rising incidences of polarization and threats of violence in political processes in the United States. The event is rather quite illustrative of some of the challenges that are facing the country as far as the civil order, and especially political assembly are concerned.
