The Lok Sabha witnessed fiery exchanges as opposition leaders, led by Priyanka Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, questioned the government’s handling of the Pahalgam attack and Operation Mahadev. Home Minister Amit Shah defended the actions but drew criticism over intelligence lapses and ceasefire ambiguity. Prime Minister Modi is yet to respond.

Tensions escalated in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday as the debate over Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev continued for a second day. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a sharp dig at the government, accusing it of avoiding accountability for the deadly Pahalgam attack. “Those in power walk out before I speak,” she said, highlighting the absence of security personnel at the site where 26 people were killed.
Home Minister Amit Shah, in his address, confirmed that three terrorists behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack were neutralised in Operation Mahadev. He detailed that the attackers were identified as Sulieman, Jibran, and Hamza Afghani, and that the operation was launched immediately after the attack. Shah also revealed that aides to the terrorists had been captured and detained.
However, opposition leaders were not convinced. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav questioned the timing of the military operation and alleged a serious intelligence lapse. He also challenged the government's silence on the ceasefire, indirectly referencing U.S. President Trump's claim that he facilitated the truce between India and Pakistan. “Why did the government not explain who agreed to the ceasefire and why?” he asked.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari raised concerns about continued cricket ties with Pakistan, questioning how diplomacy and sport could coexist amid national grief. Shah, in turn, hit back by blaming Congress for past missteps regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), accusing previous governments of compromising national interests.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to speak later in the day, the debate remains intense. As calls for greater transparency mount, the session reflects deepening political fault lines over national security, foreign policy, and accountability.
