Horrendous Child Rape and Murder in Odisha

A 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a 23-year-old man in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district while her parents went to vote during the general elections, leaving the village community devastated.

It is gruesome child rape and murder that has shaken a village in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. On a sordid note, in a tragic incident that happened on Saturday, the very day that people were exercising their franchise in the general elections, a seven-year-old girl was said to have been raped and killed while her parents were out voting.

The accused, a 23-year-old man, was said to have gained entry into the child’s house and either enticed the child or forced her to a nearby river bank. As the police records indicate, he then proceeded to assault the young girl in the most gruesome manner sexually and then choked her to death.

The child’s body was found the same day by the villagers who had gone hunting. They could arrest the suspect and then take him to the police station. He has been arrested after filing an FIR under sections of the IPC regarding the rape and murder of a minor.

This horrific act has left the small village community devastated and in deep sorrow. TChildrights activists have criticized the act a lot and are demanding justice prevail. The incident has also brought outrage in the entire Odisha once again for demanding a stringent law and strict implementation of laws against sexual violence against children.

Police continue investigating the case and seek to find out what led to such an act of violence against an innocent child.
