Imran Khan Served With Non-bailable Arrest Warrant:-
A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued against ex-PM Imran Khan by an Islamabad Court for the threatening of a female judge. The Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s petition to exempt him from an in-person appearance was rejected by judicial magistrate Malik Aman, who also instructed the authorities to bring him before the court on April 18.
The Beginning of The Case
The case began on August 20, 2022, when the former Prime Minister of Pakistan announced that his party would file cases against the then-Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the DIG as well as the Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry for the alleged custodial torture of Shahbaz Gill. Due to his warning, Imran was charged with various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). He was also held in contempt of court, resulting in the initiation of proceedings against him. Subsequently, the PTI Chairman extended an apology in the contempt case after which the terrorism charges against him, under the ATA, were dropped by the Islamabad High Court.
The Hearing
Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi requested the court to change the ex-Premier’s bailable warrants to non-bailable owing to Imran’s absence in the proceedings. He argued, “We are done with his excuses regarding the Wazirabad incident. Did he not provide a similar excuse when he appeared before another court two days ago?”, after hearing which the judge decided on the verdict.
Previously in this case, Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim had also issPersonued a non-bailable arrest warrant to Imran, who contended that he couldn’t appear in on the given date due to his health issues and the threats to his life.
Ever since the cricketer-turned-politician was removed from power by his successor Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in April last year, he has been embroiled in various legal battles.
