In a grand theatrical setting at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the nation's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics during the inaugural session of the 141st IOC event.

Highlighting a long-held dream shared by India's 140 crore population, PM Modi expressed the nation's desire to fulfill this ambition with the support of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC Executive Board (EB) meeting suggested a significant addition to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, considering the inclusion of cricket alongside four other sports - squash, lacrosse (sixes), baseball and softball, and flag football. These decisions are expected to be finalized during the IOC's ongoing session in Mumbai, where PM Modi took the stage to commence the event.

PM Modi took pride in India's evolving sports landscape, pointing out its impressive performance at the recent Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. He emphasized the government's proactive role in promoting sports, with initiatives like the Khelo India University Games, Youth Games, Summer Games, MP sports competition, and para games.

The PM also extended congratulations to the Indian men's cricket team for their victory against Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. He underscored the historic achievements of Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2023.
