nation's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics during the inaugural session of
the 141st IOC event.
Highlighting a long-held
dream shared by India's 140 crore population, PM Modi expressed the nation's
desire to fulfill this ambition with the support of the International Olympic
Committee (IOC).
The IOC Executive Board
(EB) meeting suggested a significant addition to the 2028 Los Angeles Games,
considering the inclusion of cricket alongside four other sports - squash,
lacrosse (sixes), baseball and softball, and flag football. These decisions are
expected to be finalized during the IOC's ongoing session in Mumbai, where PM
Modi took the stage to commence the event.
PM Modi took pride in
India's evolving sports landscape, pointing out its impressive performance at
the recent Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. He emphasized the government's
proactive role in promoting sports, with initiatives like the Khelo India
University Games, Youth Games, Summer Games, MP sports competition, and para
games.
The PM also extended
congratulations to the Indian men's cricket team for their victory against
Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. He underscored the historic
achievements of Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2023.
Modi stated, "India
is ready for global sports events," and conveyed the collective enthusiasm
of 140 crore Indians for the prospect of hosting the Olympics on home soil.
During his keynote address, he reinforced the unifying power of sports in promoting peace and fostering connections across nations.

IOC President Thomas
Bach commended India for its stellar performance at the Asian Games 2023, where
the nation secured a remarkable 107 medals, including 28 gold.
Bach acknowledged,
"Another illustration of the growing Olympic spirit is the outstanding
performance of the Indian athletes at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Congratulations to India on its record-breaking medal haul."
Discussing the upcoming
Paris Olympic Games in 2024, Bach predicted that it would epitomize the values
of the Olympic Movement. He envisioned a more inclusive, urban, and sustainable
event with full gender parity.
At the outset of the
event, IOC member Nita Ambani highlighted the significance of this meeting,
where the Olympic Movement and India, the world's largest democracy, converged.
She emphasized that the deliberations in the coming days would inspire
countless young minds to embrace the transformative potential of sports.
