India rejected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's claims of involvement in criminal activities, calling them baseless. The diplomatic tensions escalated after RCMP accusations were deemed vague and unsupported by evidence, leading to the expulsion of Canadian diplomats. Both sides remain firm on their respective positions.
India has strongly refuted claims made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding its alleged involvement in criminal activities within Canada. According to reports citing unnamed Indian government sources, assertions that Canada has presented credible evidence linking India to extremist activities, including those involving Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, are "simply not true."
The Indian officials described Canada’s approach as relying on “vague accusations” and shifting the burden of denial onto India. Trudeau recently accused Indian agents of employing coercive tactics, clandestine information-gathering, and involvement in violent acts targeting Canadian citizens, particularly in the South Asian community. However, India has dismissed these statements as baseless.
The escalating tensions between the two nations have resulted in a series of retaliatory actions, including the expulsion of Canadian diplomats from India. Indian sources argued that Canadian authorities have repeatedly failed to provide any concrete evidence supporting their claims, and they consider the diplomatic targeting of the Indian High Commissioner to Canada as an "unacceptable" move.
Trudeau’s allegations were bolstered by comments from Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Mike Duheme, who asserted that several individuals linked to the Indian government have been involved in criminal activities. Despite these accusations, Indian officials maintain that none of the evidence cited by the RCMP was ever shared with the Indian government.
