Mumbai police questioned Shubham Lonkar, a key accused in the Baba Siddique murder case, before the April Salman Khan firing incident but released him due to insufficient evidence. Lonkar is linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which allegedly orchestrated Siddique's assassination. A fourth suspect was arrested for aiding the crime.
Mumbai police had questioned Shubham Lonkar, one of the absconding accused in the Baba Siddique murder case, in connection with the firing outside actor Salman Khan's residence in April. Lonkar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was suspected of providing shelter to the shooters involved in the attack. However, he was released due to lack of evidence at the time.
The Baba Siddique murder case, which has sparked widespread attention, involves Lonkar and his brother, both accused of planning the assassination of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) politician. The brothers are alleged to have hired two shooters, Dharamraj Kashyap and Shiv Kumar Gautam, to carry out the killing. While two shooters have been apprehended, Gautam remains on the run.
In a chilling social media post, Lonkar had claimed the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was responsible for the murder and issued warnings against aiding Salman Khan or Dawood Ibrahim. His brother has since been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch, and investigations continue into their role in the crime.
On Tuesday, police arrested a fourth accused, 23-year-old Harishkumar Balakram, in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. He is believed to have supplied money and arranged logistics for the murder while working as a scrap dealer in Pune. The police have confirmed that Balakram was fully aware of the plot.
