Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is expected to use the RCMP and Foreign Interference Commission to indict India in the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case, despite no formal charges. Amid rising diplomatic tensions, India has recalled its diplomats, while Khalistani groups target Indian officials, escalating the Indo-Canadian standoff.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reportedly preparing to use the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Foreign Interference Commission to accuse India of involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This move comes after India withdrew its High Commissioner and five diplomats from Canada, citing a lack of trust in the Trudeau government.

Despite the Modi administration’s demands for solid evidence, no charges have been formally filed by the RCMP linking India to the Nijjar case. The Trudeau government, seeking to secure Sikh votes, is expected to proceed with the allegations. Trudeau’s appearance before the Foreign Interference Commission on October 16 is expected to further escalate diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

India’s recall of its diplomats follows mounting hostility from pro-Khalistani groups in Canada. Sanjay Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, has been targeted, with a banned organization, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), offering a bounty of half a million Canadian dollars for his whereabouts. Khalistani groups have also harassed and burned effigies of Indian officials, escalating the already volatile situation.

The inquiry by Canada has been criticized as biased, with no opportunity for Indian representation or counter-evidence, leading to accusations that it is a political maneuver rather than a genuine investigation. Trudeau’s push to link India to foreign interference in Canada’s political landscape has drawn further scrutiny, with reports suggesting that Canadian officials have themselves been involved in divisive activities in Indian states.

As both countries brace for further diplomatic fallout, the outcome of the Foreign Interference Commission’s findings could have lasting repercussions on Indo-Canadian relations.
