India Launches Gabon's First Agriculture SEZ Project

India’s Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, attended the launch event of Gabon’s inaugural Agriculture Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project in New Delhi. The minister emphasized the strong friendship between India and Gabon, highlighting the long-standing relations between India and Africa.

He mentioned that Africa’s Gabon, despite having fertile land, currently depends on food imports. To address this, the SEZ has been established, and an Indian university has partnered with Gabon in this endeavor.

Under the project, farmers from the Indian state of Odisha will travel to Gabon to teach local farmers about various agricultural practices, including the cultivation of maize, bananas, and cereals. Additionally, they will provide training on transformer construction.

Pradhan expressed his commitment to helping Gabon achieve its ambitious goals in the agriculture sector.

The initiative aligns with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting cooperation among countries of the Global South during India’s G20 presidency. Pradhan also emphasized that this project is in line with India’s New Education Policy, which aims to meet not only the educational needs of India but also those of the world.

He stressed that India has a responsibility toward poorer and underdeveloped nations, and this initiative is a significant step in that direction.

The launch event signifies the strengthening ties between India and Gabon, with a focus on agricultural development and knowledge exchange. It represents a mutually beneficial partnership that allows India to share its expertise in agriculture while aiding Gabon in achieving self-sufficiency in food production.
