Amidst the recent announcement from the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, India-born entrepreneur Firdaus Kharas has been appointed as an officer of the Order of Canada. Kharas, a thought leader in social change through human-centered media, has been acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to societal betterment.

The Order of Canada, renowned as one of the nation's most esteemed honors, highlights the exceptional and sustained efforts of individuals spanning various societal sectors. Governor General Mary Simon unveiled the 2023 list, comprising three new "companions," 15 officers (including an honorary officer), and 59 members, recognizing their significant impacts on Canada.

At 68, Kharas' appointment as an officer of the Order of Canada specifically cites his role in advancing social change through human-centered media. Expressing his gratitude, he remarked on the honor's special significance as an immigrant, highlighting the relatively small Parsi community, to which he belongs, in Canada.

The investiture ceremony for the appointees to receive their insignia is slated for a future date, yet to be announced. Kharas, a prominent figure renowned for producing social and behavioral change communications, founded Chocolate Moose Media in 1995. His works have reached over a billion people across 198 countries, including various languages in India.

Acknowledged with 125 awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award and multiple honorary doctorates from universities, Kharas' impactful journey underscores the power of media in catalyzing positive societal transformation.
