India Ranks Third in FIH Men's Hockey Rankings After Triumph in Asian Champions Trophy

The Indian men's
hockey team climbed to the third spot in the FIH Men's Hockey World Rankings.
This remarkable achievement comes on the backdrop of their resounding victory
in the Asian Champions Trophy, where they emerged triumphant against Malaysia
in a gripping final match.
After a clash
resulting in a 4-3 victory over Malaysia, India's ranking leaped to third place
with a notable 8.61-point increase, reaching a total of 2771.35 points. This
surge in their ranking was a testament to their exceptional performance and
hard-fought win, marking a step up from their previous standing at 2762.74
points.
Leading the
charts is the Netherlands, three-time World Champions, reigning at the top with
an impressive 3095.90 points. Belgium, the runners-up of the FIH Men's Hockey
World Cup 2023, firmly holds onto the second spot with 2917.87 points.
Meanwhile, Germany, the reigning men's hockey world champions, currently
occupies the fifth position with 2680.04 points, trailing behind England with
2763.50 points.
Under the
skillful guidance of coach Craig Fulton and the leadership of captain
Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian men's hockey team has been showcasing exceptional
form since 2020. Their accolades include a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo
Olympics and a silver at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The Indian
National team also secured commendable third-place finishes in the Asia Cup
(2022), the Asian Champions Trophy (2021), and the FIH Hockey Pro League
(2021-22).
Adding another
feather to their cap, the Indian team now stands as the most successful squad
in the Asian Champions Trophy's history, having clinched four titles. In the
decisive match against Malaysia, goals from Jugraj Singh, Harmanpreet Singh,
Gurjant Singh, and Akashdeep Singh sealed India's victory. Malaysia fought
valiantly with goals from Abu Kamal Azrai, Razie Rahim, and Aminudin Muhamad.
The achievements
of the Indian team did not go unnoticed, as both Hockey India and Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister MK Stalin recognized their outstanding efforts. Hockey India
announced a cash prize of Rs 3.00 lakhs for each member of the Indian Men's
Hockey Team and Rs 1.50 lakh for the Support Staff. In a parallel gesture,
Chief Minister MK Stalin bestowed a generous cash prize of Rs 1.1 crore upon
the victorious team, acknowledging their remarkable triumph.
