India's star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, faced an ICC reprimand and a 50% fine for 'inappropriate physical contact' with England's Ollie Pope during a Test match. The incident occurred when Bumrah obstructed Pope during a run. England's Pope shone with a remarkable 196-run innings, overshadowing India's efforts. Bumrah's penalty raises questions about cricket ethics.
In
a recent Test match between India and England, the International
Cricket Council (ICC) reprimanded India's prominent pacer, Jasprit Bumrah,
for an 'inappropriate physical contact' incident with England's standout
player, Ollie Pope. Acknowledging the sanction, Bumrah accepted a 50% fine on
his match fees along with a demerit point, imposed by the match referee, Richie
Richardson. The ICC stated that Bumrah breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of
Conduct, involving 'inappropriate physical contact' during an International
Match.
The controversial episode unfolded during the 81st over of England's batting innings, where Bumrah intentionally obstructed Ollie Pope while taking a run, resulting in the 'inappropriate physical contact.' Bumrah's immediate admission of guilt negated the need for a formal hearing. As this was Bumrah's first such offense in the last 24 months, only one demerit point was added to his record.

While
the on-field drama unfolded, England's Ollie Pope stole the limelight with a
spectacular 196-run inning. Pope's outstanding performance played a crucial
role in England securing a significant 230-run lead in the second innings,
overturning a 190-run deficit. The match saw a twist as Tom Hartley, who
struggled in the first innings, became England's hero in the second, claiming
7/62 against the Indian batters, who struggled against spin.
Despite the efforts of KS Bharat and R Ashwin delaying the inevitable, India fell short by 28 runs as England emerged victorious. The incident has raised questions about cricket ethics and player conduct, prompting a closer look at on-field behavior in international matches.
