stapled visas

India has vehemently condemned China's issuance of stapled visas to sportspersons from Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian government has described this action as "unacceptable" and has asserted its right to "suitably respond" to such discriminatory measures.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, addressed the issue during a media briefing, stating that India had already lodged a "strong protest" with the Chinese authorities regarding this matter. It has been brought to the government's attention that stapled visas were given to some Indian citizens who were meant to represent the country in an international sporting event held in China.

Mr. Bagchi emphasized India's unwavering stance on the matter, reiterating that there should be no differentiation or prejudice based on domicile or ethnicity in the visa regime for Indian citizens holding valid Indian passports.

India-China Tensions Over Arunachal Athletes

This incident has heightened tensions between the two Asian nations. Arunachal Pradesh, a northeastern state of India, has been a longstanding point of contention between India and China. China claims the territory as part of its own, referring to it as "Southern Tibet," while India firmly asserts its sovereignty over the region.

China has stapled visas on Arunachal Athletes

This is not the first time China has resorted to issuing stapled visas as a form of diplomatic pressure against India. In the past, China has used this tactic to express its disagreement with the Indian government's policies or actions related to certain regions, including Arunachal Pradesh.

India has consistently maintained that its citizens should not face any discriminatory treatment when it comes to visa issuance based on their place of domicile or ethnicity. This principle is fundamental to India's approach to international relations and its commitment to ensuring the welfare and dignity of its citizens.

Suitable Response from India

In response to China's provocative actions, India has taken a strong stance and is actively considering how best to respond. The issuance of stapled visas by China is not only a diplomatic affront but also raises concerns about the treatment of Indian athletes who were supposed to participate in the international sporting event.

While the exact nature of India's response remains to be seen, it is clear that the Indian government will not tolerate any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or discriminate against its citizens. The incident is likely to have implications on India-China relations and may prompt further diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
