On Saturday
(IST), India won the first test match of the series against the host West
Indies which was held in Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Dominica.
By bundling out
West Indies at a score of 130 India accomplished victory on the third day of
the session with 141 runs.
The day started
with a 312/2 which showed a great 110 run partnership between Jaiswal and
Kohli. Jaiswal became the third Indian after Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma to
score 150 in a debut test match. With a score of 171 Jaiswal departed and A.
Rahane entered who soon left with a three making it Kemar Roach's first for the
night.
Kohli continued
to fight with a defense in a partnership with Jadeja and took India to 400/4 at
the time of lunch of third day. Kohli took 147 balls to score a half century. The departure of
Yashasvi Jaiswal was the point where Windies tried to bring their game up but
it was also the pick of the collective efforts from Indian batters.
After lunch,
Kohli and Jadeja tried to bring up the score for India but much to Indian's
dismay Kohli rode on luck and departed soon. Ishan Kishan took the innings
further with Jadeja to extend India's lead. A score of 421/5 was declared by
the team with Jadeja digging out at 37 and Ishan only scoring a single.
The second
innings of Windies began with a trail of 271 runs. The first wicket was down at
7(28) by Jadeja. Ashwin joined a couple overs later with a wicket of Brathwaite
for 7. WI was stuck at a score of 34 as the wounds got 4 from 2 for them.
Athanze became the savior of the team. Siraj was then brought and he took just
3 balls to dismiss another Winie, Da Silva at just 13(27).
After this Ashwin
took the match further and the spinner solely ripped apart the entire middle
over.
Most of the
wickets fell into his account with a figure of 7-71 and ended the day along
with the match. The spinner led the team to empathic victory and kicked off
WTC25 cycle with 12 points in India's bag.
India took the
lead by 1-0 in the two-match series.
