US President Joe Biden has named Indian-American Ajay Banga as a nominee to the World Bank Chief post on 23rd February 2023 (Thursday). If his nomination is accepted by the Board of Directors of the World Bank, Indian-American Ajay Banga would be the first Chief of Sikh-American origin to be leading one among the top 2 financial institutions in the world- World Bank or the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Indian-American Ajay Banga’s Career Full of Accolades
Ajay Banga has had a glorious career which has led him to be named as a nominee to the World Bank Chief post. He has served as the former CEO of Mastercard and is currently the Vice Chairman of General Atlantic. Prior to these positions, Indian-American Ajay Banga has pursued economics at the prestigious St Stephen’s University after which he pursued an MBA degree at IIM, Ahmedabad. He started his career by working for 13 years at Nestle after which he worked for Pepsico. The Indian government had also awarded the Padma Shri to the former CEO of Mastercard in 2016. Not just this, Indian-American Ajay Banga was promoted as an honorary chairman at the International Chamber of Commerce in 2020.
