The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated a joint operation on Thursday in Baramulla after detecting suspicious movements linked to terrorist activity. The encounter began as terrorists opened indiscriminate fire upon being confronted by security personnel. According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, the operation is currently ongoing, with troops effectively retaliating to secure the area.

This joint operation comes amid a recent surge in terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. On Wednesday, security forces engaged in an encounter in the Lolab area of Kupwara, leading to the elimination of a terrorist, along with the recovery of an AK rifle, hand grenades, and ammunition. Earlier in the week, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF also launched operations in Bandipora, resulting in the neutralization of a terrorist in a separate encounter and the apprehension of a suspected terrorist associate in Sopore.

There has been an escalation in terrorist activities, including a grenade attack in Srinagar on November 3, which injured 12 civilians. This year has seen other high-profile encounters, with multiple terrorists neutralized in recent months across the region, including in Anantnag, Akhnoor, and Ganderbal. These incidents underscore the continuing efforts of security forces to manage and contain terrorist threats in the region.

As the Baramulla operation continues, security forces remain on high alert, conducting search and cordon operations to prevent further escalation. The Army and police have reiterated their commitment to stabilizing the region amid rising security challenges.
