Chabahar Port, Iran: An Indian company operating at Chabahar Port is gearing up to invest a substantial amount of $85 million to enhance the loading and discharging of cargo, according to senior port state control officer, Sa Hashemi. The investment aims to bolster the port's capabilities and solidify its position as a crucial trade gateway in the region.

The Indian company, appointed as the operator of Chabahar Port, will utilize the investment to procure advanced equipment required for efficient loading and unloading operations. "Our operator, which is an Indian company, is going to invest USD 85 million here by bringing some equipment to carry out loading and discharging," stated Hashemi. This responsibility encompasses managing the arrival and departure of all ocean-going ships at the port.

An Indian company operating at Chabahar Port is gearing up to invest a substantial amount of $85 million to enhance the loading and discharging of cargo, according to senior port state control officer, Sa Hashemi.

Chabahar Port boasts a depth of -16, allowing for the seamless handling of cargo from vessels with a deadweight of up to 120,000 tons. Hashemi emphasized that the port imposes no limitations on the type of vessels it can accommodate. "We have the passenger terminal for marine passengers that come here, any passenger ship. Any ferry ship can come here. We can also have converted, very big 6000 containerships as well. We have no limitation for berthing and onboarding of these ships," he explained.

A recent visit by ANI to Chabahar Port showcased the Indian operator's presence through the deployment of Indian Ports Global Limited (IPLG) cranes for cargo loading and unloading activities. The Indian authority oversees a substantial office at the port, further reinforcing India's involvement in its operations.

During the visit, shipping containers were observed at the port, while a vessel named DELRUBA was seen loading iron dust destined for China. The port's strategic importance was underscored by Indian Ambassador to Iran, Rudra Gaurav Shresth, who made Chabahar Port his inaugural official visit outside of Tehran. Shresth, who recently assumed his role as ambassador, engaged with various senior port officials to deepen bilateral ties and explore future collaborations.

"Chabahar is an important project for India, and the same was reflected in how the Indian ambassador chose Chabahar for his first official visit outside Tehran," revealed a source familiar with the matter. The ambassador's visit followed his presentation of credentials to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi earlier this month.

Chabahar Port's general director, Engineer Asgari, Governor of Chabahar, Dr Sepahi, and the managing director of India Ports Global Limited, Sunil Mukundan, were among the key officials who interacted with Ambassador Shresth during his visit.

As an integral part of India's foreign policy and trade strategy, Chabahar Port holds immense potential for bolstering regional connectivity and facilitating seamless trade between India, Iran, and other nations. The Indian company's substantial investment will pave the way for enhanced operational capabilities, furthering the port's status as a vital economic hub in the region and driving the growth of international trade.
