In a recent development, the Indian government has responded to sanctions imposed by the United States on 18 Indian companies for allegedly supplying materials that support Russia's activities in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The sanctions, announced on October 30, targeted nearly 400 entities globally, including companies from China, Kazakhstan, and the UAE, accusing them of facilitating Russia's ability to circumvent earlier restrictions.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, asserted that the sanctioned Indian firms have not breached any domestic laws. He emphasized that India's regulatory framework for strategic trade is robust, aligning with international non-proliferation standards. “Our understanding is that the sanctioned transactions and companies are not in violation of Indian laws,” Jaiswal stated during a media briefing.

The Indian government is taking proactive steps to engage with US authorities to address the sanctions and clarify any misunderstandings. As part of its outreach efforts, Indian agencies are conducting seminars on strategic trade controls, aiming to educate local firms on compliance with export regulations.

Jaiswal highlighted India's commitment to non-proliferation, noting its participation in key multilateral export control regimes, including the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Missile Technology Control Regime. The government is working to ensure that Indian companies are informed of any new export control measures that could affect their operations, reinforcing India's position in global trade.
