In a recent turn of events, an IndiGo passenger created a social media stir by reporting an unexpected and unsettling discovery in their in-flight meal. The passenger claimed to have found a screw in the sandwich served during the journey, sharing a post-deboarding picture that quickly gained attention online. IndiGo, in an official statement released on Tuesday, addressed the issue and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused while emphasizing that the problem was not reported during the flight.

The airline, known for its commitment to quality service, took the opportunity to reiterate that its in-flight meals adhere to high standards of quality and hygiene. IndiGo assured passengers that the meals are sourced from reputable caterers, undergoing rigorous quality checks. Despite the regrettable incident, the airline refrained from providing specific details about the circulated image.

This incident follows a previous in-flight food-related occurrence on an IndiGo flight where a passenger discovered a worm in a sandwich. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) took notice of the matter and issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo on January 2. The incident in question happened on December 29, on flight 6E 6107 from Delhi to Mumbai. In response to the notice, IndiGo promptly issued an apology for the incident.

In light of these incidents, FSSAI has been actively advocating for improved food safety measures within the aviation sector. On January 17, FSSAI urged airlines and flight caterers to strictly comply with food safety regulations. Emphasizing the importance of proper labeling of items served to passengers, the authority called for heightened awareness and adherence to food safety protocols.

Recognizing the need for collaborative efforts, FSSAI organized a meeting on January 16, bringing together leading flight caterers and airlines. The objective was to assess current food safety protocols and explore ways to strengthen them within the airline catering industry. The industry stakeholders discussed and evaluated measures to enhance the overall safety and quality of in-flight meals.

This incident serves as a reminder of the critical role that robust food safety protocols play in ensuring passenger well-being and confidence in airline services. While IndiGo faces temporary scrutiny, the broader discussion highlights the ongoing efforts to continually improve and uphold the highest standards in the aviation industry.
