In the wake of Hardik Pandya's injury setback, the Indian cricket team finds itself grappling with yet another concern as they gear up for a series against South Africa. As they prepare to face the Proteas across multiple formats starting from December 10, reports indicate that Mohammed Shami is currently contending with ankle problems.

According to sources cited in Cricbuzz, Shami's ankle troubles have emerged as the team prepares to embark on their tour to South Africa. While Shami isn't included in India's limited-overs squad, he is a part of the Test series scheduled for December and early January. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that Shami's participation in the Test series is contingent upon his fitness, highlighting his current medical treatment in their squad announcement on November 30.

The uncertainty looms over Shami's involvement in the impending Test series and a three-day warm-up game leading up to it. The first Test commences on December 26 at Centurion, followed by the second starting on January 3 in Cape Town. This development adds to the challenges faced by the Men in Blue, who are also set to navigate three T20Is and three ODIs during the tour, having named different captains for each format.

Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul are set to lead in T20Is and ODIs, respectively, while regular skipper Rohit Sharma is slated to return to captaincy for the Test series. As the team braces for their rigorous South Africa tour, the uncertainty surrounding Shami's fitness remains a critical concern for the Indian cricket board and fans alike.
