The 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, spearheaded by a committee led by former president Ram Nath Kovind, is actively seeking public engagement to revamp India's electoral process. This committee, established last year, aims to harmonize and synchronize various elections across the nation.

With an open invitation to the public, the committee encourages individuals to contribute their ideas and suggestions before the January 15 deadline. The objective is to introduce essential changes to the existing legal and administrative framework, allowing for simultaneous elections at multiple levels of governance.

To facilitate participation, the committee has provided accessible avenues for submissions. Citizens can share their insights through the committee's dedicated website, onoe.gov.in, or via email at sc-hlc@gov.in, as outlined in the official notice.

Since its inception, the committee has held several meetings, delving into the complexities and feasibility of conducting simultaneous Lok Sabha, Assembly, and other polls. Recently, it extended invitations to political parties, urging them to offer their perspectives and engage in interactive sessions regarding this proposed electoral reform.

Notably, reminders have been dispatched to national and state-level political entities, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to this significant initiative. Additionally, the committee has actively sought insights from the Law Commission on the practical aspects and potential amendments required for simultaneous elections.

Operating within its defined scope, the committee aims to meticulously evaluate and propose recommendations for synchronized elections across various tiers of governance. This includes the House of the People (Lok Sabha), State Legislative Assemblies, Municipalities, and Panchayats.

In adherence to its terms of reference, the committee aims to scrutinize and recommend specific amendments to constitutional and statutory provisions. These changes are crucial for facilitating synchronized elections, aligning with the spirit of the 'One Nation, One Election' concept.

This initiative signifies a robust step towards streamlining India's electoral process, promoting efficiency, and fostering synchronized democratic exercises across the nation.
