LGBTQ + People

According to a survey released on Thursday by IPSOS, younger generations are more likely than their elders to identify as gay, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, or asexual. Over 22,514 people under the age of 75 from the 30 nations took part in the survey online between February 17 and March 3, 2023 and provided replies.

Senior Vice President of Research and Communications at IPSOS Nicolas Boyon stressed that the study shows similarities across nations, demonstrating widespread tolerance for LGBTQ + rights because of greater encounters with members of the community.

In the nations studied, more than half of the respondents said they were in favor of same-sex marriage when it was permitted.

A total of 56% of respondents from the 30 nations said that same-sex couples should be able to legally wed. Furthermore, 16% of respondents thought that same-sex relationships should receive some kind of legal recognition, even if it isn’t marriage.

The survey also revealed that women supported same-sex marriages more than males. The vast majority of respondents across 26 nations agreed that same-sex couples are equally capable of raising children successfully as other parents. This discovery defies prevailing parenting beliefs and points to a rising acceptance of various family forms.

Boyon was surprised to learn that nations like Thailand, Italy, and Spain, as opposed to the US, Eastern Europe, and Great Britain, support transgender persons more.

For instance, allowing individuals to utilise public amenities in accordance with the gender they identify with. Additionally, there is less support, according to Boyon, for health insurance to pay for transition expenditures in the same manner that it does for other medical operations.

LGBTQ +

A major movement in attitudes towards LGBTQ + rights has occurred globally according to an IPSOS poll/ the awareness and acceptance of various sexual orientations and gender identities are expanding as more people form personal connections with members of the LGBTQ + community.

The results of the poll demonstrate the necessity of ongoing activism for LGBTQ + rights, particularly in nations with insufficient support.
