Jackie Shroff, the iconic Bollywood actor, made his remarkable Hindi film debut in 1982 with "Swami Dada," a movie directed by the legendary Dev Anand. This pivotal moment would go on to shape Shroff's career, propelling him to stardom in the Hindi film industry.
Recalling the transformative influence of Dev Anand, Jackie Shroff fondly reminisces, "He made it very easy for me. He would never sit idle and would act out for everybody. He was the perfect example of someone who was always on his toes. I had the privilege of working with him in four films, spending 15-30 days on set for each project. Those moments on set were precious to me because he was always immersed in his work.
Beyond his work ethic, Shroff emphasizes the immense love and kindness that Dev Anand exuded towards everyone around him. "He was never harsh or rude to anyone," Shroff adds. "His abundant love made it impossible not to love and respect him in return. Whenever I talked to him about my past, he would always say, 'Aage ki soch' (Think about the future). He was incredibly positive, and his optimism lifted not only me but everyone around him."
Describing his connection with Dev Anand as 'spiritual,' Shroff expresses his gratitude for the legendary actor's blessings, which played a pivotal role in his acceptance in the film industry. Jackie Shroff considers Dev Anand his guiding light and cherishes every aspect of his journey, from imitating Dev Anand's hairstyle as a child to becoming a part of his autobiography. Dev Anand, for Shroff, is not just a mentor but a spiritual figure who has shaped his life and career in profound ways.
