Affairs Minister Jaishankar embarked on a pivotal visit to Nepal, engaging
in significant meetings to fortify the enduring ties between India and Nepal.
His discussions included sessions with President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime
Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ setting the stage for the seventh
Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting.
Upon
his arrival in Nepal, Jaishankar promptly initiated diplomatic protocols by
paying a courtesy visit to President Paudel at the Presidential Office Sheetal
Niwas. During this interaction, President Paudel emphasized the critical need
for collaboration between the two countries in multiple domains, including
connectivity, climate change mitigation, and hydropower development.
The cordial atmosphere continued as Jaishankar was warmly welcomed by his Nepalese counterpart, N P Saud, and senior officials at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Expressing his delight at returning to Nepal for his first 2024 visit, Jaishankar conveyed his anticipation for the upcoming engagements during his stay.

This
strategic engagement was highlighted by Jaishankar and Saud co-chairing the
crucial seventh meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission, established in
1987. The commission serves as a pivotal platform for both nations to
comprehensively review and bolster their bilateral partnership across various
spheres.
India's Ministry of External Affairs underlined Nepal's priority status in India's 'Neighbourhood First' Policy, emphasizing the tradition of high-level exchanges fostering close ties. This visit signifies a steadfast commitment to furthering the enduring and unique friendship between India and Nepal, elevating their partnership to new heights.
