Constable Mohd Mukhtiyar was arrested at Jammu’s Government Medical College for selling drugs. Found with heroin and cash, Mukhtiyar’s case is the second arrest involving police-linked drug trafficking in a week, highlighting corruption challenges. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha continues to crack down on such networks.
In a shocking incident in Jammu, Selection Grade Constable Mohd Mukhtiyar was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly selling drugs on the premises of Jammu’s Government Medical College (GMC). Mukhtiyar, who served in the Armed Police 12th Battalion in Srinagar, was detained after being found in possession of 15 grams of heroin and ₹9,000 in cash. The arrest is part of a larger crackdown on drug trafficking within Jammu and Kashmir, which has exposed troubling links between law enforcement personnel and drug networks.
Mukhtiyar’s arrest follows another incident just a week earlier, where Constable Perwaiz Iqbal of Jammu’s crime branch was apprehended along with his two wives, with 33 grams of heroin in their possession. Police suspect that both officers were part of a larger drug syndicate operating in the region, adding urgency to ongoing efforts to root out corruption within law enforcement.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has intensified actions against individuals suspected of involvement in narco-terrorism. In August, Sinha dismissed five police officers and a teacher for alleged ties to a cross-border narco-terror network believed to be orchestrated by Pakistan’s ISI and other terrorist groups. The firings, under Article 311(2)(c) of the Indian Constitution, allow for the removal of state employees considered threats to national security without standard procedures.

The recent arrests underscore the challenges the region faces in curbing narcotics and corruption, especially within its own security forces. This crackdown is expected to continue as Jammu and Kashmir authorities aim to disrupt these dangerous networks.
