The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its sixth slate of candidates for the
forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, which includes a number of elected and former
West Bengali lawmakers.
A notable development in the list is that one of the 19 new state candidates is a survivor of the Sandeshkhali catastrophe. Rekha Patra, a former resident of Basirhat who now resides in Sandeshkhali, is among the unexpected nominees.
Following her participation in a demonstration against the alleged sexual assault by three Trinamool Congress (TMC) expelled leaders—Shibu Hazra, Sheikh Shahjahan, and Uttam Sardar—all of whom are currently detained by the police, Patra gained notoriety. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demonstrated both its strategic position in West Bengal and its engagement with local issues by selecting Patra.
After a four-year break, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union held elections, and a united Left coalition emerged victorious. They won the election and took over the four important offices of president, vice president, general secretary, and joint secretary from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The presidential candidate Dhananjay, a Bihari, won the doctoral program. The alliance, which included groups like the All India Students' Federation (AISF), Students' Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), and the Students' Association of India (AISA), represented the Left in a major victory over the RSS-backed All India Students' Party (ABVP).
