The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has come up
with the Global Liveability Index 2023. This index has ranked 173 cities
according to the feasibility of inhabitation in these locations.
Where
Does Pakistan’s Karachi Stand?
Karachi, Pakistan has been ranked 169th out of 173 cities, which implies that it is among the 5 ‘least livable’ cities in the world. It is shameful to see that the city of Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan and the 12th largest city of the world as well. It clearly implies the miserable state of affairs in the country of Pakistan. Even in 2019, Karachi had ranked 136th out of a total of 140 cities in the world.
Which
are The Other ‘Least Livable’ Cities?
The other cities which have ranked below Karachi are as follows: Damascus, Lagos, Tripoli and Algiers.
How
Does the Index Work?
Some of the factors that the index considers to
produce the ranking are “post-COVID recovery of cities across the world, and
rates of living conditions based on five categories, including stability,
healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.”
