Kerala Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb has urged law enforcement officers to expedite the submission of charge sheets in narcotics cases and enhance their efforts to combat the drug crisis in the state. During a quarterly crime review meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram, the Director General of Police (DGP) emphasized the importance of timely investigations and the need for swift filing of charge sheets.
In a strategic move, the DGP has assigned the Janamaithri Police to strengthen anti-drug initiatives by collaborating with educational institutions, including schools and colleges. The meeting also resulted in a decision to extend the current mapping of criminals in Ernakulam district to all districts, aimed at improving control over criminal activities.
Moreover, the meeting addressed the increasing threats posed by cyber crimes and online financial fraud, deciding to implement awareness programs across all districts. To further enhance public safety, night police patrols will be intensified, with Zonal Inspectors General of Police instructed to focus on this effort. Special checks will also be conducted to identify vehicles with fake number plates.
To strengthen the district special branch systems, officers will receive additional training. The review will include POCSO cases with delayed charge sheet filings, and Range DIGs will be tasked with ensuring timely actions.
