Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged Prime Minister Modi to take action against inflammatory remarks made by BJP leaders targeting Rahul Gandhi. Kharge condemned the "Number one terrorist" remark and a death threat, calling them harmful to India's democracy. He asked Modi to guide his allies and maintain respectful political discourse.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed grave concern in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging action against recent hate-filled comments directed at opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. Kharge condemned remarks like "Number one terrorist," made by Union Minister Ravneet Bittu, and a death threat from a former BJP MLA. He called these statements "deeply disturbing" and dangerous for India's democratic values.
In his letter, Kharge emphasized the need for discipline among the ruling party and its allies. He highlighted how such rhetoric undermines the sacrifices made by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, who died for the country. Kharge urged the prime minister to ensure that boundaries of political discourse are respected and to prevent the growing spread of violent language in politics.

Bittu’s comments targeted Rahul Gandhi for his statements made during a recent visit to the United States. Additionally, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Gaikwad's viral comment offering ₹11 lakh for cutting off Gandhi’s tongue added fuel to the controversy. The BJP, while distancing itself from Gaikwad’s statement, has yet to address the broader issue of hate speech.
Kharge’s letter serves as a plea for PM Modi to take immediate steps to curb the inflammatory language and preserve the values enshrined in the Constitution.
