Violent Attacks

Lawmakers in the United States have strongly denounced the recent arson attempt and violent rhetoric directed at Indian diplomats, including the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The Indian consulate in San Francisco was targeted by pro-Khalistani elements, leading to widespread outrage among US Congressmen.

Congressman Shri Thanedar expressed condemnation of the attacks, emphasizing that violence and attempts to instill fear have no place in a democratic society.

Similarly, Congressman Rich McCormick labeled the attack on the Indian consulate as despicable and unacceptable, standing in solidarity with the Indian-American community. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick called for legal action against those responsible, firmly denouncing the violence and stressing the need for accountability.

The co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India, Ro Khanna and Michael Waltz issued a press release condemning the attempted arson and vandalism at the Indian consulate in San Francisco, as well as the circulation of posters containing violent rhetoric against Indian diplomats.

They stressed that while free speech is protected, it should not be used as a pretext for property damage or incitement of violence. The co-chairs called on the US State Department to swiftly investigate the incident and collaborate with law enforcement to hold the perpetrators accountable.

The Indian Ambassador and Consul General were specifically targeted in the circulated posters, accused of involvement in a recent terrorist killing. Concerns were raised over threats to Indian diplomats in Canada, where a pro-Khalistan rally was planned.

The Indian consulate in San Francisco has been subjected to previous attacks, with protests staged by Khalistani supporters. Law enforcement authorities are urged to take immediate action to investigate the damage and ensure those responsible face consequences.
