Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, faces a federal indictment comprising nine tax charges in California and additional firearms charges in Delaware, escalating amidst the approaching 2024 elections. The indictment alleges tax evasion of USD4 million in income across 2017 and 2018.
Amidst
intensified scrutiny, Hunter Biden, entangled in a probe into his business
affairs, confronts three felonies and six misdemeanors alongside earlier
federal firearms charges related to alleged violations against drug users
possessing guns in 2018.
Initially
expected to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges, the agreement collapsed in
July. Critics labeled it a "sweetheart deal," triggering increased
Republican investigation into Biden's business dealings and the Justice
Department's case handling.
Republican
voices have called for an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden,
insinuating involvement in his son's alleged influence-peddling scheme. The
House anticipates voting on authorizing the inquiry next week.
Although ethical concerns surround the Biden family's international business dealings, no concrete evidence has emerged to implicate Joe Biden in abusing his authority or accepting bribes during his current or prior offices.

The
ongoing criminal investigation overseen by Delaware US Attorney David Weiss
began in 2018. Initially slated for a plea deal, Hunter Biden was expected to
admit to tax evasion misdemeanors and negotiate terms for the gun charge,
avoiding jail time for a two-year probation.
Biden's
legal woes intertwine with a history of substance abuse, exacerbated after his
brother Beau Biden's demise in 2015. Prosecutors highlighted substantial
earnings, including fees from foreign companies, asserting that Biden failed to
pay taxes until 2020, later settled by a third party in 2021.
