Exit polls predict BJP victory, but the Opposition calls them "fantasy", and claims they will win the majority instead. Final results on June 4.
The Indian national election held on Sunday has seen the BJP-led NDA coalition winning with a big margin, as predicted by exit polls. However, the opposition INDIA bloc has completely negated the claims of the exit poll results terming them as ‘Modi’s fantasy polls’.
About ten exit polls have estimated the NDA to get 353-383 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha with some surveys even crossing the 400 mark. This would help PM Modi to repeat a similar history of Jawaharlal Nehru who spearheaded his party to power for the third term. As per the polls, BJP is clearly on an upward climb in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
The exit polls were rubbished by the former Congress president, Sonia Gandhi who expected that the vote counting results that were due on 4th June would be ‘opposite’. “I believe our actual figures are completely diametrically opposite to what the exit poll has indicated,” she said during a rally in Delhi.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi noted the exit polls as “a Modi media poll” and “his (PM Modi’s) fantasy poll. ” Party leader Jairam Ramesh thought that the polls were psychological games of the outgoing PM to make an impact before the results.
By its forecasts, the INDIA bloc is expecting to win not fewer than 295 seats, which will be a triumph. According to various telephonic surveys, it is expected that Congress is going to secure less than 75 seats.
