The BJP remains steadfast in its choice of Devendra Fadnavis for Maharashtra's CM, rejecting a power-sharing model akin to Bihar's. As Eknath Shinde steps down, discussions with top BJP leaders are underway, with a final decision expected soon. The Mahayuti coalition's election victory strengthens BJP’s position in the state.

The suspense over Maharashtra’s chief ministerial post may end today, as discussions within the Mahayuti alliance intensify. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains firm on Devendra Fadnavis as its CM candidate, rejecting any proposal resembling Bihar's "formula," where power-sharing agreements shifted leadership.

Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde resigned on Tuesday, fulfilling a constitutional obligation, but continues to serve in a caretaker capacity. BJP spokesperson Prem Shukla dismissed parallels with Bihar, emphasizing the party’s stronger organizational base in Maharashtra and lack of any pre-election commitment to Shinde retaining the CM post.

BJP election coordinator Raosaheb Danve also refuted claims by Shiv Sena leaders that Shinde was promised the top role. Shinde, Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar are in talks with BJP’s central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to finalize the decision.

The Mahayuti coalition secured a landslide victory, winning 230 of 288 seats. With BJP claiming 132, Fadnavis is widely seen as the frontrunner for the CM post. Shiv Sena leaders, however, argue for Shinde’s continuity, citing public sentiment from the recent election campaign.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has expressed confidence in Fadnavis leading the state for a third term, though the BJP is holding off on a formal announcement until ministerial portfolios are distributed.
