Maharashtra’s Jagdish Uikey was arrested for sending nearly 100 fake bomb threats, hoping to gain attention for his book on terrorism. Growing frustrated with unacknowledged emails, he resorted to threats. Authorities are investigating his motives, while Uikey remains in custody for further evaluation.
In a bizarre case, a 35-year-old man from Gondia, Maharashtra, has been detained for sending nearly 100 fake bomb threats to government offices, flights, and trains across India. Identified as Jagdish Uikey, he sought attention from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and other officials to endorse his book titled Atankwad-Ek Tufaani Rakshash ("Terrorism: A Demonic Storm").
Since January, Uikey had been emailing the PMO and other government figures, hoping for support to publish his book. However, when his emails went unanswered, he reportedly grew frustrated and began issuing bomb threats to gain attention. According to Nagpur Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for cybercrime, Lohit Matani, Uikey’s book appears to be a compilation of terrorist theories sourced online.
Uikey had previously been interrogated on two occasions for sending objectionable emails, including one alleging PMO connections with job seekers. In his recent emails, Uikey claimed to have knowledge of “sleeper cell” activities in India and referenced warnings from foreign security alerts to make his threats appear credible.
The authorities launched a detailed investigation, uncovering over 350 emails in Uikey’s “sent” folder. His arrest came after Nagpur Police, led by DCP Shweta Khedkar, apprehended him at Nagpur railway station. Delhi Police’s special cell has joined the probe, with officials examining his call records, devices, and monetary transactions to understand the full extent of his motives and actions.
