Missing Indian Sikh Student Found Deceased in London Lake

Gurashman Singh Bhatia, an Indian student, missing since a night out with friends, was
tragically discovered deceased in a London lake within Canary Wharf's vicinity.
The UK Metropolitan Police launched an appeal, urging anyone with information
about Bhatia's last movements to come forward. The 23-year-old was reported
missing following an outing with friends on December 14.
Authorities
conducted extensive inquiries involving CCTV footage reviews, witness
interviews, and scrutiny of phone and financial records. Additionally, water
searches ensued in the area, leading to the recovery of a body believed to be
Bhatia's by police divers at South Quay.
Detective
Chief Superintendent James Conway addressed concerns surrounding the case. He
clarified that while Bhatia's demise was unexpected and not deemed suspicious,
the investigation aims for comprehensive verification. The police released a
CCTV image of Gurashman, urging anyone who might have seen him in the Marsh
Wall area on the night of December 14 to contact them.
Expressing condolences to Bhatia's family and friends, Conway labeled the outcome an "extremely tragic" turn in the missing persons inquiry. Although formal identification hasn't occurred, the family has been notified. Individuals possessing information about Gurashman's movements have been encouraged to reach out to authorities by calling 101 and quoting the reference CAD5787/15Dec.

The
news triggered a wave of social media appeals by the Indian student community
in the UK, with heartfelt messages and prayers. Sanam Arora, Chair of the
National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK lamented the loss and
extended sympathies to the bereaved family and friends.
Bhatia enrolled in an MSc in Digital Finance at Loughborough University and was highlighted to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar by BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa after his disappearance. Sirsa conveyed deep sorrow, offering prayers and strength to Bhatia's grieving parents in a social media post.
