In a significant move towards sustainable progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled the 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana', aimed at providing free electricity to one crore households through solar power. This initiative, with an investment exceeding Rs 75,000 crore, seeks to encourage the adoption of solar panels on rooftops. PM Modi emphasized the importance of leveraging solar energy for sustainable development and the well-being of citizens.

Under this scheme, substantial subsidies will be directly credited to the beneficiaries' bank accounts, ensuring minimal financial burden. Additionally, concessional bank loans will be made available to support the installation of solar systems. To streamline the process, all stakeholders will be integrated into a National Online Portal, enhancing accessibility and convenience for applicants.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the role of grassroots institutions such as urban local bodies and panchayats in promoting rooftop solar systems. Incentives will be provided to these entities to facilitate widespread adoption. The scheme is anticipated to not only reduce power bills but also generate employment opportunities.

To encourage participation, PM Modi called upon residential consumers, particularly the youth, to enroll in the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through the official website. The application process involves registering on the portal, applying for rooftop solar, awaiting feasibility approval from DISCOM, installation by registered vendors, and subsequent approval procedures.

By harnessing solar energy, the PM Surya Ghar initiative aims to empower households, promote sustainable living, and mitigate the environmental impact of traditional energy sources. It signifies a significant step towards realizing India's renewable energy goals and fostering inclusive growth nationwide.
