Around 6,000 Russians were watching the rock group Picnic perform at the Crocus City Hall shopping and entertainment center. An eyewitness claims that the altercation began just minutes before the band was scheduled to perform. Picnic's band members all made it out alive. One of the guards reported that an armed attacker broke into the foyer and began shooting at the security team who were stationed at the main entrance.
Another witness claimed that at the time of the incident, minors were inside the building competing in ballroom dancing. Numerous ambulances were dispatched immediately to the accident scene and remained outside the Krasnogorsk facility for some time.
